The Days

A guitar figure, hand-claps, and Robbie Williams singing without credit on the sleeve — "The Days" is Avicii at his most conventionally song-shaped, closer to a pop-rock single with a house pulse than to anything a DJ would need. The production is warm and mid-forward, acoustic strums riding high in the mix, the drop replacing its synth stab with a full-band lift so the whole thing feels played rather than programmed. Williams sings it in his showman's chest voice, generous and a little worn, which suits a lyric that is entirely retrospective: these are the days we'll remember, the nights that stretched too long, the friendships that will read differently at forty than they do at nineteen. It is nostalgia written in advance, addressed to a future self who will need it. Paired on the same EP with "The Nights" and its father's advice, the two songs form a small argument about living so that the memory will be worth having. Play it at the end of a summer, in a car with the people it is about, before anyone has moved away.
