Baby again..
Fred again..
Where some of Fred again..'s collaborations preserve his signature intimacy, this track with Skrillex tilts toward something more raw and disorienting. The vocals — processed, pitched, layered — carry a quality of regression: vulnerability rendered literally, the adult voice stripped back toward something younger and less defended. Skrillex's production sensibility brings an edge that contrasts with the softness of the emotional content, introducing textural elements that feel almost abrasive against the tenderness of the source material. The track has a dreamlike quality, phrases and sounds dissolving and re-emerging in altered forms, memory behaving the way it does at the edge of sleep. Rhythmically it shifts unpredictably, refusing the steady four-to-the-floor that grounds much of Fred's work, instead moving with the logic of feeling rather than the logic of dance. The result is music that exists in a liminal space — not quite ambient, not quite club-ready, not quite a conventional song, but something that captures the state of being caught between two versions of yourself, the past and the present. You'd encounter this at 4am, when exhaustion has thinned the membrane between states of consciousness and the music reaches you more directly than it would in daylight.
