CHON's "Book" unfolds like sunlight moving across a room over the course of an afternoon — unhurried, observant, completely at ease with itself. The guitars are immaculately clean, running through warm chorus tones that give every note a slightly rounded, almost tactile quality, as though you could reach out and feel the string vibration. The rhythm section locks in with a looseness that reads as effortless but reveals, on closer listening, an almost absurd level of internal syncopation — polyrhythmic figures passing between instruments like a quiet conversation.
