"眼淚成詩" moves through a quieter, more interior register than much of Sammi Cheng's catalog. The production strips away the orchestral grandeur and leaves something more like a candlelit room — piano-led, with gentle brushed percussion and a bass line that barely insists on itself. Her voice, usually deployed as an instrument of brightness, is given space here to show its shadows. She sings as someone who has moved through pain far enough to look back at it with a kind of literary tenderness — not fully healed, but far enough along that she can see the shape of what happened. The conceit at the heart of the song is genuinely unusual for pop: the idea that tears themselves are a form of expression, that sorrow has aesthetic value, that the act of grieving can be a kind of creation. There's no bitterness in the delivery, which makes it stranger and more affecting than a conventional breakup song. The melody never reaches for catharsis the way the chorus of a Cantopop ballad is supposed to. Instead it holds a kind of suspended wistfulness, like a photograph examined in the dark. It's the kind of song you put on alone, after something difficult has ended, when you're beginning to believe you might survive it.
