Star Eyes

There is a current of deep belief running through everything Floorplan makes, and "Star Eyes" is perhaps the most transparent expression of that spirit. Robert Hood's gospel-inflected project takes the structural vocabulary of Detroit techno — the sparse kick, the repetitive architecture, the long horizon of groove — and fills it with a warmth that feels genuinely devotional rather than stylized. Piano chords arrive with the unhurried confidence of a church musician who knows the congregation will follow wherever they lead, and the chord voicings carry that specific quality of gospel harmony where joy and yearning occupy the same breath simultaneously. The track does not gesture toward spirituality as aesthetic; it seems to emerge from the actual experience of belief, of music as something that exceeds its own technical ingredients. The bass sits deep and warm, supportive rather than driving, and the overall texture has a humanity that sets it apart from the cerebral detachment of much techno.
