"Pieces" has a rougher grain than much of L'Arc-en-Ciel's catalog — the guitars carry more grit, the rhythm section pushes harder, and Hyde's delivery edges toward urgency without fully abandoning the introspective quality that defines the band's voice. The production has that early 2000s Japanese rock texture: tight but not sterile, with enough warmth to keep the edges from feeling cold. There's a structural tension in the track between its harder impulses and its melodic core, as if the song is constantly negotiating between wanting to break out and wanting to fall inward.
