Nerves
DPR IAN
The anxiety is structural here, not just topical. The production builds tension through accumulation — each layer added seems to restrict breathing space rather than expand it, synth textures pressing inward while the low end throbs with something that isn't quite comfortable. IAN's voice is controlled but the control itself reads as effort, as deliberate management of something that wants to break loose, and that tension between the careful vocal performance and the agitated production underneath creates the song's emotional truth. It maps what it feels like when the body knows something before the mind catches up — racing pulse, hyperawareness, the sense that ordinary situations are somehow threatening. The tempo operates at that frustrating middle speed that's too fast to settle into and too slow to release energy through, keeping the listener in the same suspended unease as the narrator. DPR IAN has built much of his artistic identity around examining the interior experience of anxiety and mental strain, and this track earns its place in that catalog by refusing to aestheticize the experience into something beautiful. It stays uncomfortable. You reach for this when you want to feel genuinely heard in your worst cognitive patterns, when softer music feels dishonest and you need something that acknowledges the actual jagged texture of a difficult day.
